Honestly, neither did I.  But it is.  I stumbled upon this fact while I was doing a little personal research on reusable grocery bags yesterday.  America Recycles Day is sponsored by Keep America Beautiful. Keep America Beautiful is a nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community environments. “Keep America Beautiful believes that each of us holds an obligation to preserve and protect our environment. Through our everyday choices and actions, we collectively have a huge impact on our world. It’s really a simple concept, but one with far reaching effects”.

Edenfeed also believes in personal responsibility and impact.  So today we want to take a moment encourage you to recycle.  If you are new to recycling and want to find a recycling center in your area click here.

Do you need some convincing on the impact of recycling?  Such as… “How much energy can you save by recycling one aluminum can every day for a month?” Here are some interesting facts provided by Waste Management who provides recycling services for our home in the Tampa Bay area.

If you are not new to recycling you can still celebrate America Recycles Day by…

  • Spreading the word
  • Looking for ways to take your own recycling up a notch.  Here are some ways recommended by Keep America Beautiful. I know several people who do this in their own way.  A friend of mine will only buy her clothes consignment as her commitment to keeping things out of landfills.  Another looks first for a product made of recycled materials.  I bet you have your own way of keeping items out of the landfill.
  • Refreshing your personal recycling knowledge.  Chances are you may learn something new as things change fast in our ever-evolving world. Did you know that you must remove the lids off your plastic bottles and milk jugs?  Again, neither did I, until this past year.  I saw it on a TV show and then called my recycling provider to confirm. They are not recyclable.  They should be disposed of in your household garbage.  Our recycling provider, Waste Management, incurs a cost if they bring too many items to the recycling center with the lids on the containers.  So removing the lids at your home keeps recycling costs down.

Got a recycling fact, tip or story to share?  We would love to hear it.  I learn something new every day and you may be today’s teacher.

Happy America Recycles Day All!
